Literature Days in Liverpool

For the past five years I’ve been involved in organising Continuing Education courses in literature at the University of Liverpool. If you live in or near Liverpool and you’re interested in books and reading, you could do worse than look into the one day courses on offer this Spring. These are the courses running on Saturdays in February. English Literature Saturdays take place at 126 Mount Pleasant (9.30 am-4.30 pm) and the fee for each day is £26/£20 concessions.

PATRICIA HIGHSMITH’S STRANGERS ON A TRAIN

SHAKESPEARE’S WINNING WOMEN

How did Shakespeare portray his women? Were they what we’d call ‘real women’? We’ll examine a range of heroines in Shakespearean tragedy and comedy to explore how they steal the show.

PSALMS

The Psalms form one of the oldest bodies of poetry in existence, and yet these poems still speak to us today, in voices of suffering, triumph, praise and revenge. This day school aims to explore the structure, poetics and human depth of the Psalter.
