100 American Crime WritersPosted: October 2, 2006
UPDATED:I handed over this project to Steven Powell in 2009, when I was unwell, and he has taken it to publication with Palgrave (2012) here: 100 American crime Writers
It’s been a busy summer and it’s going to be a busy winter. I’ve just picked up another book contract, this time with Palgrave Macmillan, to co-author a reference book called 100 American Crime Writers, due in 2009. My co-author is Esme Miskimmin, who is currently writing a book on Dorothy L. Sayers for Liverpool University Press. The catalogue blurb for 100 American Crime Writers will read as follows:
An authoritative yet accessible reference guide to the most important 100 American crime writers of all time. Arranged chronologically, entries include a biographical summary, a list of related writers, a biographical essay from 500 up to 2500 words, and useful bibliographies. The introduction gives a fascinating overview of the major figures, influences and events in the history of American crime writing. Essential reading for anyone with an interest in the subject, from crime fiction fans to professional researchers.
This is a really great project, which I’ve been thinking about for some time now. We’re hoping to interview some of the living authors so the book will have interest beyond the basic reference material. More information and some sample entries to follow when I’ve sorted out the website.
